You know when life just gets so crazy and out of hand that something's gotta give? I guess that's digital scrapbook designing for me right now- I'd like to keep doing my own pages and posting those, but I've yet to find the balance to enable the designing- maybe with my parents here this week I'll have a little extra time to sneak away and play with my computer.

So, some of you may have been lucky enough to pick up my little Audrey mini-kit when I gave it away as a freebie participation gift over at ScrapMatters. It was a hit! I have seen so many darling layouts with it, I decided to add a bunch more paper and elements to make it a full blown Digital Scrap Kit- simply named, Audrey! It turned out pretty darn girly, but I've seen some cute little boy layouts done with it too- wanna see it?

I was thrilled with the way the whole kit turned out, but I especially love the big glittery brackets and cool journaling items. Here's a preview of just the papers (since I always have a hard time seeing them with all of the elements in the previews).

Hi guys! I've just finished Stella- and had so much fun with this one! It brought back all sorts of fun memories of digging through my mom's boxes filled with all sorts of fabulous scrap fabrics from the 60's and 70's- Oh how I wish she still had those boxes around! Here's the preview of Stella:

I participated in another speed scrap tonight- There were the 7 rules, each given at 10 minute intervals, and then we had another hour to finish our layouts before they needed to be posted- here are the rules:

1. Pick 2-3 pictures, black & white or color, and arrange them in a line or a grid. That's kind of two instructions for the price of one. It was hard to get it down to seven total directions!
2. Pick your background paper—it needs to be black or very dark brown or very dark blue. It can be plain or patterned.
3. Place your pictures on your paper and stitch them down. You read it right—they must be stitched down. I don’t care how much stitching, but every picture has to have at least one stitch on it.
4. Title—Your title must contain two words and only two words. You can use a font or an alpha or a combination of the two.
5. Elements—Whatever elements you choose to use, must be tucked part way under at least one of the pictures. No floating elements!
6. Almost there—now use a definition to define one of the words in your title. It should also pertain to your layout—the dictionary is fine. It can be word art or just text.
7. Last one! For this LO you can’t add any real journaling, just your definition and names of people in the pictures and the date. Of course what you do with it after the speed scrap is up to you! But your definition should really cover most of it.

The more I scrap, the more I find that I really do love the simpler scrap pages with clean lines and white space- maybe it's because I'm so left-brained, but I've been definitely leaning more that way of late. I love my good friend and old roommate Amy's pages because they are just that- you can see her stuff on my sidebar under Amy's Crop Room. Anyways, I scraplifted this layout from her Thanksgiving '07 and I absolutely love it! (Thanks Amy for being my inspiration!)

I've found a new love- I just participated in my first ever Speed Scrap- and it was so much fun! We had 2 hours to finish a layout with 6 specific guidelines (each step given progressively every ten minutes:

Step 1 three photo minimum

Step 2 Papers 1 solid 3 patterened coming from three different kits

Step 3 Border you photos completely or partially, it's up to you but no pre-made frames are allowed. Be creative with the other resourses you have literally at your finger tips.

Step 4 Add a tag that must be incorporated into your title. You can put your whole title on the tag. You can put one word on the tag or even just the beginning letter but part of you title must be ON TOP of the tag.

Step 5 Add swirls and a word element

Step 6 Add your journaling around your LO. It must go all the way around so repeat if you need to.

Step 7 Take a deep breath and enjoy the next 56 minutes to complete it and post it here and in the gallery.

So.... 2 hours later here's what I came up with:

Here's the article I did on two-page layouts at ScrapMatters.com with a freebie!

Hiya fellow Scrappers! It’s me, Kristie- I wanted to talk to you a little bit about your layouts today. I’ve noticed a trend in the digital scrapping world of single-page layouts and I’m here to say- Don’t give up on your double-pagers just yet! I understand that single-page layouts are not only quicker, but it’s also nice not to have to worry about how your two pages flowing together. Having said that, let me list a few of the pro’s I’ve found while two-page Digital Scrapbooking with a few examples from my own gallery.

Two-pagers:

-can look amazing and really stand out.

-allow you to fit more pictures into one layout- I usually have so many pictures from each of the events I’m scrapping I really need both pages to fit them all in.

-get you caught up more quickly. I guess this pro lends itself to the last one, but when I first switched from paper to digital scrapping, I was two years behind. By utilizing two-page spreads I was able to catch up more quickly- I spent ½ the time I would have otherwise trying to figure out which beautiful kit I would use for each page.

-creates a more spacious look, one-pagers are gorgeous, but once again- if you have a lot of pictures they can look a little cramped.

-give you an opportunity to more fully utilize all of those wonderful embellishments we love from our digital scrapkits.

-really allow you to fully carry out a theme or idea-

-Look so amazing when bound in a book next to each other.

But what about all of those wonderful 1-page template freebies you’ve been picking up here and there online? Simple! Go ahead and use the template as is for your first page, and flip it horizontally making a mirror image for the second, or try it just rotating 90 degrees, etc.

Have I convinced you? Yes? No? Maybe this will be the clincher- I’ve made a 2-page freebie template from one of my own layouts for you to play with and rediscover your inner double-pager diva!
